Myra F. Pollock

Myra F. Pollock, 83, a longtime resident of Mound Valley, died at 8:50 a.m., Wednesday, December 12, 2007, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita. She had been in failing health.

She was born November 6, 1924, to Alfred Thomas and Nellie Amy (Harvey) Cadman in Rotherhithe, London, England. As a young girl, she received her education in England. She later worked for Marconi's Wireless Telegraph Company during World War II.

In April 1945, she and Maurice R. Conway were married in Shenfield, Essex, England. She, being a WWII war bride, came to the United States on HMS Queen Mary to live in Illinois. They divorced in 1952.

In May 1954, she married Charles E. Dunsing, Jr. in Las Vegas, Nevada. They moved to a farm in Missouri where they raised a family and drove a semi-truck. In 1968, they moved to Mound Valley, Kansas. Charles preceded her in death in 1971.

After attending beauty colleges in Independence, Kansas, London, England, and Glendale, Arizona, she became a licensed beautician.

In December 1973, she and Orville L. Pollock were married. She owned and operated Myra's Beauty Salon, and together they ran Pollock Construction Company. The family moved from Mound Valley in 1976 to Glendale, Arizona, where they managed an apartment complex, beauty salon and construction business. In 1980, they returned to Mound Valley. Orville preceded her in death in 1997.

She owned and operated Myra's Beauty Salon in her home at Mound Valley until she retired in 2002.
She loved rummage sales, auctions, quilting, knitting, crocheting, Scrabble, classical music, country music, and her cat, Fluffy. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She wrote her autobiography called "To The Back of Beyond." Myra was a member of the Mound Valley United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Ralph Cadman; one son,
Danny R. Dunsing, Sr.; one daughter, Janet Dunsing, and one stepson, Marion Pollock.

A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 17, 2007, at the Mound Valley United Methodist Church with Pastor Tom Reazin officiating. Inurnment will be in the Mound Valley Cemetery.
