Nada M. Guffey, of Parsons, and formerly of Chanute, died at 11:54 p.m., Thursday, October 2, 2014 at the home of her daughter, Cheri Allen.
She was born January 24, 1926 in Selma, Kansas to Lester Ray and Stella Mae (Powls) Miller. She grew up on the family farm near Selma and was a graduate of Kincaid High School. She then attended Pittsburg State Teacher's College.
After earning her teaching certificate, she taught for a time in Selma. On February 1, 1946, she and James H. Guffey were married in Iola, Kansas. Following marriage, they lived in Fort Scott before moving to Chanute in 1951. Mr. Guffey preceded her in death on June 20, 2007. In June of 2012, she moved to Parsons where she had lived since.
She was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Chanute and through the years had served as a Girl Scout leader in Chanute. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and caring for her children and grandchildren. Nada cherished time spent with her family and friends.
Survivors include one son, Jim R. Guffey and his wife, Donna, Chanute, KS; three daughters, Teresa Goss and her husband, Mike, Belles, TX, Cheri Allen and her husband, Dan, Parsons, KS, and Suzie Langham and her husband, Lee, Parsons, KS; twelve grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Letha Spillman, Blue Mound, KS, and Yvonna Underwood, Andover, KS.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Don Miller; one sister, Lorene McCollam; one grandson, Jonathan Langham; and one great-granddaughter, Brittany Allen.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at Neosho County Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute under the direction of the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
