Nadine Headley

Nadine Headley, 84, of Belle Plaine died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007.

She was born on Sept. 15, 1923, in rural Wellington to Benjamin Franklin and Beulah (Merle) Heasty Luster.

She married Carl Eugene Headley at her parents' home on June 8, 1941, in the same room in which she was born. He preceded her in death.

She worked for Boeing Aircraft for 35 years, retiring in 1985. She was active in the Girl Scouts, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Altamont. After the death of her husband, she cooked for several years at the Barner Center in Belle Plaine and sold Avon. She loved her family, and friends were always family. She gave encouragement and unconditional love to all who loved her.

Survivors include four children, Carl E. Headley Jr. and his wife, Margaret, of Spokane, Wash., Charles D. Headley and his wife, Sylvia, of Missoula, Mont., Mary E. Frogge and her husband, Bill, of Amarillo, Texas, and Janice C. Chapman and her husband, Bill, of Mound Valley; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, 612 N. Linden, Belle Plaine. Burial will be at 1 p.m. at Lakeview Cemetery, Wichita. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hatfield Smith Funeral Home in Belle Plaine, where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

The family suggests memorials to Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, 130 N. Topeka, Wichita, 67202; Little Lighthouse, 5120 E. 36th St., Tulsa, 74135; or Altamont Christian Church. The memorials to the church can be sent to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
