Nadine Johnston

Nadine Johnston, 73, of rural Edna, died at 8:48 a.m., Saturday, June 2, 2007, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Missouri.

She was born November 8, 1933, in Topeka, Kansas, to Mervin and Ruth (Ragel) Brooks. As a child, she moved to California, Edna, and Coffeyville and later to Kansas City, Missouri. In 1951, she graduated from Paseo High School in Kansas City.

She and Bennie B. Johnston were married February 3, 1952, in Kansas City, Missouri. Following marriage, they moved to a farm south of Altamont where they have made their home for the past 47 years. For a time, she worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons. She then became a secretary at Altamont Grade School where she retired after having served the school district for 26 years.

She enjoyed quilting, reading, cooking and visiting with friends and family. She had been active in 4-H in the past and was a member of the WTL Home Economics Club and the Itchin for Stitching Club.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont. Burial will be in Lake Creek Cemetery near Bartlett. Friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience.
