Naomi R. Carter, 75, of Chetopa, passed away the afternoon of Sunday, September 14, 2025, at her home.
Naomi Ruth Strickland was born on July 21, 1950, to Elmer and Thelma (Lindsey) Strickland in Oswego, Kansas. She grew up and attended school in Oswego, graduating from Oswego High School in 1968.
On January 30, 1970, Naomi and Clyde Andrew "Andy" Carter were united in marriage. The couple made Chetopa their home for over 34 years.
For many years, Naomi provided care for many children. Most of the children in her loving care knew her as NaNa.
She was a longtime and active member of the First Baptist Church of Chetopa, where she attended weekly Bible study and helped coordinate luncheons for funerals and other church gatherings.
Known for her loving and caring nature, Naomi loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include:
Her husband – Andy Carter of the home
One son – John Carter and his wife, Loretta, of Kentucky
One daughter – Marsha Moses and her husband, Dusty, of Oswego, Kansas
Three grandchildren – DeLisa Harms and her husband, Jake; Nick Moses and his wife, Brittany; and Josh Carter and his wife, Hailey
Three great-grandchildren – Jentry and Jett Harms; and Rynlee Moses
Several nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents; and 10 siblings.
The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the First Baptist Church of Chetopa. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
