Neva M. Fisk, 82, formerly of Edna and Parsons, passed away at 9:30 p.m., Friday, November 25, 2016 at the Pittsburg Care and Rehabilitation Center in Pittsburg, Kansas.
She was born May 15, 1934 in Coffeyville, Kansas to John "Russell" and Viola May (Duncan) Fisk. As a young girl, Neva grew up in rural Edna and was a 1952 graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont. She moved from the farm home place to Coffeyville where she found work as a waitress and later as a secretary.
In 1958, she moved to Kansas City, Missouri to join the Air Force (WAF). She worked part time while attending Weaver Airline School taking a telecommunications course. She was stationed in Charleston, South Carolina and served as secretary to the WAF Commander. Neva was the first WAF at Charleston Air Force Base to make Airman First Class within her first "hitch" (three years).
After an honorable discharge in 1962, she moved to Parsons where she found work in sewing factories. Her last job was working for the City of Parsons until retiring. She loved that job most of all and made many friends while working there.
In 1950, Neva accepted the Lord as her Savior. She joined the Nazarene Church and was active in all church services including teaching children's Sunday School classes. She later moved her membership to the Free Will Baptist Church.
Neva was also a member of the Genealogical Society. Bowling was her favorite sport. She was an avid reader of books, especially biographies and Christian testimonies. Neva enjoyed playing the guitar and piano and loved getting together with others (to form a "band") who shared her love for country and gospel music. For several years, she supported Korean orphans and donated to other Christian causes as well.
