Nola L. Gatton, 73, of Altamont, passed away at 4:15 p.m., Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Labette Health in Parsons.
She was born October 7, 1942 in Parsons, Kansas to Hugh E. and Mary Jean (Gray) Turner. While being raised by her grandparents, Nola grew up in Oswego where she attended school and later graduated from Labette County Community High School in Altamont.
On May 22, 1960, she and Robert L. "Bob" Gatton were married at the Oswego Christian Church. After marriage, they lived in rural Parsons until moving to Altamont in 1970.
She was a charter member of the former Altamont Christian Church. Nola was also a member of the Caldwell Circle, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and had been honored as Volunteer of the Year by the VFW Auxiliary. While her sons were serving their country during Operation Desert Storm, she was an active member of the 1011th S/S Company family support group in Independence where she served as president.
She enjoyed gardening, canning vegetables, camping, attending yard sales, and bird-watching, especially cardinals. Nola adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with them and attending their activities. Nola received great pleasure when offering her home as a gathering place for family and friends.

A Half-Sister – Phyllis G. Turner Tulsa, OK
She was preceded in death by her parents and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 25, 2016 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
