Norma Jean Lewellen, 87, of Oswego, passed away at 8:12 p.m., Friday, August 6, 2021, at Oswego Health and Rehab.
She was born June 14, 1934 at Parsons, Kansas, to Omar Kenneth Turner and Dot Ethlynn (Wilson) Turner. She grew up near Lake McKinley and attended the Oak Grove School northeast of Parsons. Later, she moved with her family to Erie, Kansas, where she continued her schooling. In 1951, she graduated from the Erie High School. In 1952, they moved to Parsons where she worked for Hallmark Cards and the Fred Ronald Company.
On March 2, 1963, Norma Jean was united in marriage to Albert Frederick Lewellen in Oswego. Following their marriage, they farmed in the rural Oswego area throughout most of their married life. They also raised Holstein heifer calves. Albert preceded her in death on July 15, 2008.
She enjoyed growing flowers and spending time with her family.
Survivors include: Her son, Roland, and his wife, Christy, of rural Oswego; a granddaughter, Brenda Lewellen; two great-grandsons, Alex and Adrian Lewellen; and several cousins. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by two infant brothers, Kenneth and Gary.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at the Oswego Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. Memorials are suggested to the North-East Oklahoma A&M College Nursing Program in Miami, Oklahoma. Memorial donations may be left at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Chetopa.
