Norma E. Mansker, 91, former resident of St. Paul, died at 11:58 p.m., Friday, October 11, 2013 at the Lakepoint Nursing Facility in Wichita.
She was born January 11, 1922 to Norman & Emma Marks in rural Stark, Kansas. The family moved to St. Paul during her high school years, and Norma graduated from St. Paul High School in 1939.
Norma married Charles Edward Mansker on May 28, 1940, in St. Paul. Born to this union was a daughter, Betty Jon, and three sons, Charles Jr., Robert and John.
Norma cared for the two eldest sons while Charlie served with the US Army in Europe, and she worked at the Kansas Ordinance plant in Parsons during both World War II and the Korean Conflict, as well as maintaining their small farm.
The family moved to Wichita in 1954, and Norma worked in retail hardware for 20 plus years. Upon retirement, Norma and Charlie returned to St. Paul in 1975, built a new house, helped to re-establish the United Methodist Church, and served as a charter member of the American Legion. They didn't relax much in their retirement, staying busy with community affairs and their antique business as well as attending farm and estate auctions, refinishing and reselling collectibles.
Norma and Charlie celebrated their 65th Anniversary in 2005. Her beloved Charlie passed away February 18, 2006, and Norma moved to Derby to live with her daughter Jon. Jon provided for Norma's care for the last decade.
Survivors include three children, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Norma was preceded in death by her three brothers,Vance, Claude and Joseph, and four sisters, Hazel, Lucille, Betty and Barbara.
Memorial graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 15th at Hope Cemetery in St. Paul. Services are under the direction of the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Parsons.
