Norma Nell Sprague

Norma Nell Sprague, 82, of rural Parsons, passed away at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at her home following a brief battle with cancer.

She was born November 13, 1931 in McCune, Kansas to Eli Olen and Nellie Leah (Carson) Czapansky. At the age of 4, she moved with her family to rural Oswego, Kansas, and as a young girl attended a two-room schoolhouse in nearby Montana. She then attended Labette County Community High School in Altamont where she graduated in 1949.

On September 24, 1949, she and Carroll Lee Sprague were married at the home of her parents in rural Oswego. Following marriage, they lived in Fairbanks, Alaska while he served in the U.S. Air Force. Upon his discharge, they returned to rural Oswego where they were engaged in farming and raising cattle until their retirement.

Her family was her passion. She was a devoted wife of 64 years to her husband, a loving mother to her children, an adoring grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a caring neighbor and friend. In earlier years, she was a member of the Montana Methodist Church. She was also a member of Labette County NFO and had attended numerous national conventions where she had served as a delegate.

Through the years, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, cleaning, canning, baking, counted cross-stitch, square dancing, hosting family get-togethers and was a caregiver to many. She especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren's activities and being actively involved in their lives.

Survivors include: Her husband, Carroll Lee Sprague of the home Two Sons – Larry Sprague and wife, Judy rural Parsons, KS Joe Sprague and wife, Debbie rural Parsons, KS Four Granddaughters – Mandy Goodwin and husband, Zane Bristow, OK Kari Burchett and husband, Justin Osawatomie, KS Ali Schneider and husband, Brandon Nacogdoches, TX Amber Costa and husband, Viri Ft. Worth, TX Eight Great-Grandchildren – Ryder, Roan, Rizden and Rainee Jo Goodwin; Jack and Max Burchett; and Cash and Cole Schneider Sister-in-law – Geraldean Czapansky Parsons, KS Numerous Nieces and Nephews

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Marvin Czapansky; and one sister, Bonnie Spriggs. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 23, 2013 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Oswego Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3-5:00 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
