Norman C. Downing, 72, of Chetopa, died at 5:10 p.m., Monday, September 10, 2007, at his home. He had been in failing health.
He was born November 11, 1934, in Commerce, Oklahoma, to William Clinton and Marie Avis (Lucas) Downing. He attended schools in Chetopa prior to graduating high school in Lynwood, California.
He and Darlene Piatt were married August 4, 1955, at the Chetopa Methodist Church. She survives of the home.
He enjoyed woodworking and had made many gifts for his family. He also enjoyed music, playing the guitar, being with people, getting out for coffee each afternoon and reading. He received great pleasure from his wife reading the bible to him which they completed in less than a year.
He was a member of the Chetopa United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Brandon Ryan Downing.
