Norman S. Mundy, 89, passed away Monday, November 14, 2016 surrounded by his family.

Born May 18, 1927, in Seneca, New Mexico, he was the son of Silas Albert Mundy and Ruby Margaret (Baker) Mundy. Norman and his sister, Naomi Lucille, enjoyed life in the desert and had many great adventures there, which included having a pet tarantula.

As a young man he moved to Parsons, Kansas and spent the majority of his life there. He attended school in Altamont, Kansas. Norman worked as a plumber and various other jobs, before going to work as a brakeman for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad. He spent 44 years with the railroad and retired when the MK&T merged with the Union Pacific.

Norman's life-long passion was music. Even though he never took lessons and played by ear, he was exceptionally talented on the guitar, fiddle, mandolin, and banjo. He was a Korean War Veteran and served for 14 months in Sweinfort, Germany. While serving in Sweinfort, he was in a band that entertained the troops. Three days a week they would travel to Frankfort, Germany and record music to be played for the troops. He was a member of the Grand Ole Opry of Soldier Boys that consisted of five bands that entertained the troops.
Over the years he had entertained at countless dances, nursing homes, senior citizen centers, and had made several appearances on local TV music programs. He spent a lifetime entertaining and blessing people with his playing and singing.

Norman and Loreta Jane (Hughes) Stringer were united in marriage on March 3, 1956. She preceded him in death in 2007. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and a stepdaughter.
Due to failing health, he had spent the last 3 ½ years in assisted living and continued to entertain the residents with his playing and singing.

His daughter Rebecca, and son-in-law, Michael, were given a priceless gift the day before he passed. Michael and Rebecca led Norman to the Lord. (For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16).

Norman always had a great love for animals and we ask that memorials be made to the Proud Animal Lovers Shelter. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.

There is a great hole in our hearts and he will be greatly missed by his loved ones and friends. Private services have been held under the direction of the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
