Norvella "Faye" Thompson

Norvella "Faye" Thompson, 66, of Parsons, died at 6:29 a.m., Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

She was born January 16, 1948 in Chouteau, Oklahoma to Clarence "Daniel" and Naomi Hattie (Keys) Cummings. As a young girl, she attended Brushy Creek Baptist Church and Brushy Creek Elementary School. Her parents later moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma where she was baptized at the Union Baptist Church and sang in the choir. She attended Douglass Elementary, Sadler Jr. High and Manual Training High School. While in high school, her passion was art and after graduation she continued her career as an artist at Okmulgee Technology in Okmulgee, Oklahoma.


On June 6, 1970, she married Leonard Thompson and to this union six children were born. She worked at Brockway Glass Company and Coburn Optical before her marriage was dissolved in 1977.

In the 1980's, Faye moved to Parsons, Kansas where she made her final home. She later moved her mother to Parsons and cared for her until she passed away. Faye loved her children so much and her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews were her passion. She could always be found at one of her grandchildren's ballgames or traveling with her sisters. Faye loved children, and no matter who they were, she always wanted to take them home with her.

Through the years, she had worked as a caregiver for home health. She was a member of Hamilton Chapel United Methodist Church in Parsons.

She leaves to cherish her memory four sons, Christopher Cummings (Ashley), Claremore, OK, Roger Thompson (Angie), Parsons, KS, Clyde Thompson, Parsons, KS and Kevin Thompson, Atlanta, GA; one daughter, Imesia Thompson (Kirkland), Parsons, KS; twenty-three grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; one brother, Luther Cummings (Bernice), Muskogee, OK; five sisters, Patricia Coleman, Parsons, KS, Naomi Buchanan, Elizabeth Ballard, Madercia Lee, all of Muskogee, OK, and Nirako Cummings, Dallas, TX; one sister-in-law, Sheryl Cummings, Dallas, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, one brother, Eric Cummings; and one daughter, Lanetta Thompson.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 8, 2014 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
