Olin H. Goins

Olin H. Goins, 84, of rural Thayer, passed away Friday afternoon, August 4, 2017, from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle accident near Altoona.

He was born July 13, 1933 in rural Garnett, Kansas to Arthur Calvin and Bertha Elizabeth (Collins) Goins. As a young boy, Olin grew up and attended school in Garnett. As a teenager, he moved with his family to Independence, Kansas.

On August 24, 1954, he and Alice Marie VanMeter were married in Altoona, Kansas. Following marriage, they moved to Thayer where they made their family home and raised their three daughters. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years on February 11, 2008.

Olin loved his chosen professions of farming and ranching. For over 50 years, he was an auctioneer and owned and operated Fredonia Livestock Auction for 27 years.

He was a member of the Parkview Holiness Church in Chanute. Olin enjoyed homemade ice cream, four-wheeling in Colorado, coyote hunting, farming, and cattle.

Eleven Grandchildren

Ten Great-Grandchildren

Eight siblings, five of whom are deceased

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Patty Marshall, on October 8, 2015.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at the First Church of the Nazarene, 3167 S. 10 ^th Street, Independence, Kansas. Burial will be in Thayer Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the church.
