Olive Mae Hite, 84, of Chanute, died at 10:45 p.m., Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.
She was born August 19, 1929 in Mound Valley, Kansas to Emmett Glade and Chlora Genevieve (Munday) Butts. She grew up and attended elementary school in Mound Valley, Kansas, was a graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont, Kansas, and earned an Associate degree at Coffeyville Community College.
On October 6, 1950 she and R. Dale Hite were married in Mound Valley. Following their marriage, they made their home and raised their family on a farm north of Mound Valley. He preceded her in death on March 26, 1995. Following her husband's death, she continued to live in Mound Valley until moving to Chanute in 2007 to be near her family.
She was a lifelong member of the Mound Valley Christian Church and while living in Chanute attended the Faith Baptist Church. She enjoyed assisting on the farm and loved to read. Olive especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Dala Biggs and her husband, Gary, of Tulsa, OK, and Donna Stout and her husband, Richard, of Chanute, KS; five grandchildren, Terry and Kristy Ammons of Buffalo, KS, Justin and Anna Baldwin of Round Rock, TX, Michelle Munkirs of Bartlesville, OK, Tim and Chelsea Ammons of Chanute, KS, and Trisha Ammons of Ulysses, KY; eight great-grandchildren, and dear friend, Tom Whitten.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Jeremy Beaston.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Mound Valley Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
