Opal Toomey Sly, 100, of Parsons, died at 12:15 p.m., Friday, December 8, 2006 at Elm Haven East Nursing Home in Parsons.
She was born November 30, 1906 in Neodesha, Kansas to Elzia M. and Eva (Gildart) Toomey. She grew up and attended schools in Neodesha and was a graduate of Neodesha High School. Following high school graduation, she attended Pittsburg Normal Training School for two years.
On September 20, 1941 she and William Foster Sly were married at St. John's Episcopal Church in Parsons. He preceded her in death on December 15, 1993.
In 1941, she and her husband moved to Encino, California where they lived for fourteen years before living in the Philippines, Japan and Madrid, Spain. While her husband was working construction, they also lived in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Ohio and West Virginia. In 1960 they returned to Parsons to make their home.
For several years, she owned and operated the Vogue Beauty Shop in Parsons. She also was manager of Second Time Around Shop in Parsons. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Parsons.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at the St. John's Episcopal Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 11, 2006 to sign the register at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
