Orlyn E. Bennett, 82, of Lakeville, Indiana, passed away at 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at Hubbard Hill Estates in Elkhart, Indiana.
He was born August 28, 1926, in Altamont, Kansas, to Clayton and Mabel (Houck) Bennett.
Mr. Bennett graduated from Labette County Community High School in Altamont. He was a self-employed farmer and carpenter and drove a school bus for Unified School District 506 for twenty-four years. Mr. Bennett moved to Lakeville, Indiana, in September 2007.
On December 15, 1947, he married Jessie May Carr in Coffeyville, Kansas. She preceded him in death on February 18, 1985. On October 4, 1989, he and Dorothy (Weingart) Powell were married.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Bennett of Midway, Georgia; a daughter, Rosadene Herold and her husband, John L., of Lakeville, IN; stepdaughter, Carolyn Knight and her husband, David, of Midway, GA; granddaughter, Ronda M. Herold; seven step grandchildren, Charles Schultz, Jennifer Reese, Lisa Powell, Amanda Powell, Crystal Powell, Rachel Herold and J. Louis Herold.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Orville Bennett, and two daughters, June Bennett and Sue Bennett.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 13, 2009, at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont. The family will receive friends from 2-4:00 p.m., Sunday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
