Orvalle W. "Bud" Clingan

Orvalle W. "Bud" Clingan, 77, or rural Parsons, passed away at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at his home. He was a loving and caring husband and father, and always treated people fairly.

He was born June 26, 1938 in Ottawa, Kansas to Ruby (Hallman) Clingan and Orvalle W. Clingan, Sr. In 1957, he graduated from Erie High School where he was captain of his basketball team.

He joined the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1956 when he was a Jr. in high school and served in the United States Navy from August 24, 1957 to September 18, 1959. While serving his country, he was stationed in Iwakuni, Japan, Midway Island, and Treasure Island in San Francisco. His final discharge from the U.S. Naval Reserve was on September 10, 1962. He earned an Associate degree in Business and Industrial Supervision from Labette Community College in 1976. Buddy was employed at Dayton Superior in Parsons for 38 years and was a member of the Local Lodge #293 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.

Buddy was a well-known area resident. His work ethic started at the young age of 12 when he began working at Jones Grocery Store in Erie and later at the Neosho Valley Creamery while in high school. He loved to hunt quail, turtle doves, and rabbits and watch John Wayne Western movies. Buddy's favorite John Wayne quote was, "Talk low, talk slow, and don't say too much."

On November 6, 1959, Buddy married Barbara Cook in Erie. His last words to his loving wife, Barbara, were, "Love me."

Wife – Barbara Clingan of the home
One Son – Stan Clingan and his wife, Connie Parsons, KS
Two Daughters – Jill Hawn and her fiancé, Stan Miller Webb City, MO
Karen Shearer and her husband, Dr. Eric Shearer Peachtree City, GA
Grandchildren – Kyle Clingan, Tyler Clingan, Derick Hawn, Miranda Martin, Skye Shearer and Summer Shearer
Great-Grandson – Conner Morris and a great-grandbaby "on the way"

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orvalle Clingan, Sr. and Ruby Clingan Ruble.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home with military honors given by Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Shriners Hospitals for Children. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
