Otis Byrd, 82, of Cherryvale, died at 9:20 a.m., Thursday, November 29, 2007, at the Via Christi St. Francis Campus in Wichita. He had been in failing health but death was not expected.
He was born March 11, 1925, in Gilbert, Arkansas, to John W. and Lucy E. (Tucker) Byrd. As a child, he grew up in Arkansas.
In the 1950's, he moved to Kansas where he worked as a mail carrier, a farm laborer and cut hedge posts. For a time, he also worked at Princess Homes.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Ollie Bolen, Opal Davis, Bertha Thomas and Martha Byrd; and four brothers, George Byrd, Elmer Byrd, John Henry Byrd and Tom Byrd.
Inurnment services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 8, 2007, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa. The Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont is in charge of arrangements.
