Pansy Ward, 101, of Parsons, formerly of Altamont, died at 7:12 a.m., Sunday, February 10, 2013, at Parsons Presbyterian Manor.
She was born January 31, 1912, in Lawrenceburg, Missouri, to William W. and Nancy L. (Vanderpool) Ballinger. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Chanute, Kansas, where she grew up and attended school.
For several years, she worked as a beautician in Sterling, Kansas, before returning to Chanute. In 1985, she moved to Altamont to be near her daughter and, since June of 2007, had resided at Parsons Presbyterian Manor.
She was a member of the Altamont Methodist Church and EHU in Altamont. She enjoyed sewing, playing cards and games with friends, and going on bus tours.
She and Harold Hopkins were married. They later divorced. On October 28, 1945, she and Clark E. "Tuffy" Ward were married in Chanute. He preceded her in death on March 17, 1969.
Survivors include one daughter, Marge Sloan and her husband, Jerry, of Altamont, KS; three grandchildren, Sean Sloan and Jeni Barta, Chad Sloan and his wife, Chenay, and Ashley Fagan and her husband, Ed; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters, and an infant daughter, Nancy.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery at Chanute. Friends may call at their convenience at the funeral home after 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday.
