Patricia Charlene "Pat" Kimrey, 66, of rural McCune, went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at 3:27 p.m., at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg, Kansas, where she was surrounded by many of her loved ones. Her body had been in failing health for the past few months, but her spirit remained strong until her passing.
She was born on November 3, 1941, in Galesburg, Kansas, to Oran and Reba (Russell) Mathis. She spent her childhood in Parsons, Kansas, and Bartlett, Kansas, graduating from Labette County High School in 1959.
She married David L. Kimrey on July 16, 1960, at the Bartlett Methodist Church. He survives of the home. Together they settled in rural McCune, Kansas, where they raised their five children in a loving Christian home.
At age 38, she continued her education graduating from Labette Community College in 1983 and Pittsburg State University in 1986 earning a bachelors degree in education. She taught in area schools for 17 years, spending the last 10 of those years at USD 247 schools in West Mineral, KS and Cherokee, KS.
She was an active member of the McCune Church of the Nazarene where she served as a board member and taught children's Sunday school, summer bible school, and Kings Kids after school programs. She had a quiet inner strength that spoke volumes to her own children and the many children she taught.
Other survivors include her five children, Carol Kimrey of Columbus, KS; Mark Kimrey and his wife, Lisa, of Cherokee, KS; Scott Kimrey and his wife, Mary, of Licking, MO; Don Kimrey and his wife, Shari, of Cherokee, KS; Sharon Stewart and her husband, Darrin, of McCune, KS.
Eight grandchildren, Korey Kimrey and his wife, Stacia; Emma Kimrey, Seth Kimrey, Brittany Kimrey, Oran Kimrey, Amanda Kimrey, Kyle Stewart, Kyra Stewart.
One great grandson, Julian Kimrey
Two brothers, Marvin Mathis of Newton, KS; Russell Mathis and his wife, Beverly, of Parsons, KS.
Three sisters, Vinetta Chickadonz, Nadine Stevenson, and Frieda Conrad all of Parsons, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents Oran and Reba Mathis; her stepfather, Clifford Waller; and two brothers, Homer Mathis and Howard Mathis.
We were all very fortunate to have her as a part of our lives and will miss her deeply and look forward to seeing her again someday.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 8, 2008, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., Friday, March 7, 2008, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in McCune Cemetery. Following the burial on Saturday, the family will receive friends at the McCune Community Center.
