Paul C. Flaharty, 89, lifelong resident of rural McCune, died at 1:23 p.m., Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg.
He was born August 25, 1918 in McCune, Kansas, to William Alexander and Mattie (House) Flaharty. He grew up and attended school in McCune. He farmed his entire life on a farm north of McCune.
He and Bernice Stewart were married January 18, 1940. She preceded him in death March 10, 1979. He and Helen E. (Knowles) Smith were married December 22, 1979 in McCune. She survives of the home.
He enjoyed gardening, mowing the lawn and tractor pulling events. He was a member of the McCune United Methodist Church and Lions Club. Through the years he served as director of McCune Coop for 12 years and had also served on the Osage Township Board and Farmers Home Administration Board at Girard.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Earl Flaharty, in 1957; infant grandson, Bradley James Flaharty; and two step-great-granddaughters, Brooklyn Botts and Kia Smith.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 15, 2008, at the McCune United Methodist Church. Burial will be in McCune Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 14, 2008, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
