Paul Schroder, 86, of rural Mound Valley, died unexpectedly at his home Tuesday, November 11, 2014.
He was born February 18, 1928 in rural Mound Valley, Kansas to Charles Jacob and Iva Alice (Shombers) Schroder. He grew up in the rural Mound Valley area where he attended Sunnyside School.
He served in the United States Marines. Paul farmed throughout his life and also had three Star mail routes for many years.
He loved to study Indian history. He enjoyed hunting squirrels and had a love for all animals, especially horses. He was saved as a youth, and later baptized.
He and Amy Hinkle were married in July of 1952. After marriage, the couple reared five children together and later divorced.
Survivors include two daughters, Etta Welch, Tulsa, OK and Donna Engelmann and her husband, Larry, rural Independence, KS; one stepson, Duane Triebel, rural Elk City, KS; four grandchildren, Stephanie Jones, Elisha Dilbeck, Elizabeth Swanwick and Julie Welch; ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Ida Belle Mitchell, Irvine, CA.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, three sisters, one son, Monte Schroder; and a stepson, Leon Triebel.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 17, 2014 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Dennis. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
