Pauline N. Janes, 98, of Erie, passed away at 7:05 a.m., Sunday, May 24, 2015 at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul.

She was born March 25, 1917 in Pittsburg, Kansas to Thomas O. Mann, Sr. and Maude E. (Adams) Mann. Pauline grew up in Pittsburg where she attended school and graduated from high school.

Pauline lived in Wichita and Kansas City, Kansas prior to her marriage to Ross Janes, Jr. The couple then moved to Pittsburg where she worked for the United States Census Bureau until retiring. In 1957, they moved to Erie where she had lived since.

She was actively involved in the National Federation of Democratic Women and was awarded Humanitarian of the Year in 2009. Pauline enjoyed bowling and was instrumental in forming bowling leagues through the years. She was also a proud supporter of the Shriners Hospital for Children in St. Louis and made ditty bags as gifts for children in Wichita hospitals. In earlier years, she was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and its 8 and 40 organization.

Survivors include:
One Son – Ross Janes, III Grand Prairie, TX
One Daughter – Nikki Jo Janes Grand Prairie, TX
One Granddaughter – Arinya Janes-Eller
One Great-Grandson – Liam Eller

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Janes, Jr., on October 12, 2003.

Per her wishes, Pauline's body has been donated to science under the direction of the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. No services are planned.

Memorials are suggested to the Erie Public Library. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
