Peggy Maffei

Peggy Maffei, 71, of rural McCune, Kansas, passed away at 2:51 p.m., Monday, December 9, 2019, at her home.

She was born on July 29, 1948, to Roy and Juanita (Piatt) Haviland in Chanute, Kansas.  As a young girl, she moved with her family to Chanute where she grew up and attended schools.  She graduated from Chanute High School.

On January 31, 1976, she and Kenneth Maffei were united in marriage in McCune.  The couple made a home in the rural McCune area and Peggy was a homemaker for many years.  In 1997, Peggy started attending Labette Community College and earned an Associate's degree.  From September 1998 until her retirement on December 31, 2014, Peggy was the secretary for the Director of Community Services at Labette Community College.

Peggy's greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family, especially going to her grandchildren's activities.  She also enjoyed making jewelry.

Her husband – Kenneth Maffei of the home

Three daughters – Rochelle Sheddrick and her husband, Kevin, of Oswego, Kansas

Brandy Maffei of Parsons

Amanda Barnett and her husband, T. J., of Riverton, Kansas

Six grandchildren – Drake, Madison and Ryann Sheddrick; Keenan Dodd; Avery and Ryder Barnett

One brother – Dale Haviland of Chanute, Kansas

One Sister – Mary Brooks of Cherryvale, Kansas

She was preceded in death by her parents and one nephew, Scott Howell.

The funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 13, 2019 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.  Burial will follow at McCune Cemetery.  There will be a visitation from 7 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
