Phillip Alan Boring, 80, of Parsons, passed away at 2:18 a.m., Friday, June 12, 2026, at University of Kansas Health System in Kansas City, Kansas.
He was born on September 15, 1945, to Homer R. and Dorothy L. (Merling) Boring in Parsons, Kansas. He grew up and attended school in Parsons, graduating from Parsons High School in 1964. Following high school, Phillip earned an associate’s degree from Labette Community College.
From 1966 to 1969, he served in the United States Army, including one year in Vietnam. After being honorably discharged, Phillip worked as a welder and painter with Peabody TecTank, PowerFlame, and Taylor Products from 1970 to 1979. In 1979, he began working for the Parsons Police Department. While working for the police department, Phillip was a range master, an officer trainer, and a certified factory-trained Smith & Wesson armor. At the time of his retirement in 2000, Phillip was at the rank of corporal.
He was a member of Parsons Foursquare Church. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.
On June 20, 1970, Phillip and Sharon R. Thompson were united in marriage in Parsons. In eight days, the couple would have celebrated 56 years of marriage.
Besides his loving wife, Sharon, Phillip is survived by two sons, Joshua Boring and Mark Boring, both of Parsons; five grandchildren, Braxton Hellwig (Derek) of Oswego, Kansas, Maddisyn Johnson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Parker R. Boring (Taylor) of Liberty, Kansas, Tate Johnston-Boring of Delaware, Oklahoma, and Isaac Boring of Parsons, Kansas; three great-grandchildren, Alex, Wallace, and Evelyn; and one brother, Brent Boring (Marcia) of Erie, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Parsons Foursquare Church. Military honors will be presented by Brown-Bishop, VFW Post 704.
