Phillip D. Emert

Phillip D. "Phil" Emert, 55, of rural Parsons, died at 7:08 p.m., Saturday, September 30, 2006 at his home.

He was born March 15, 1951 to Dale Eugene and Mary Catherine "Kate" (Haraughty) Emert in Independence, Kansas. At the age of 10, he moved to Iola with his family where he attended school. He was self-employed most of his adult life. Through the years, he owned and operated an auto parts store in Oswego, worked as an over-the-road truck driver and was the owner and operator of Circle E Shoe Rebuilders in Parsons. For the past three years, he was shop foreman for Wass Trucking in Parsons until retiring due to illness.

On July 11, 1990, he married Cheri D. Wheat in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives of the home.

He was a member of Elk's BPOE Lodge No. 527. He loved to hunt and read. Phil enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren and being with a host of friends in his shop.

He was preceded in death by his father and several beloved uncles.

Following cremation, the family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Per his wishes, there will be no formal service. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, October 7, 2006 at his shop.
