Phyllis Basey

Phyllis Basey, 81, of Parsons, passed away at 9:45 a.m., Monday, June 16, 2014 at the Parsons Good Samaritan Society. She was born July 29, 1932 in rural Parsons, Kansas to Glen and Dorothy (Chany) Dixon. As a young girl, she was raised in the Pleasant Hill District where she attended K-8 at Pleasant Hill Country School and was a 1951 graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont. She and Chester Gofourth were married March 3, 1951 in Parsons. They later divorced. On May 2, 1971, she and Clyde Basey, Jr. were married in Grove, Oklahoma where they made their home. He preceded her in death on February 10, 1998. Phyllis worked various jobs throughout her life including the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant where she worked in the Supply Room, as a forklift operator, and as a taxi driver. She also worked and co-owned the A&B Shade Shop in Parsons until selling the business in 1979. At that time, she moved to Grove with her husband, Clyde, where they operated Basey's Canvas Shop. In November of 1999, she sold the business and returned to Parsons. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Parsons. She enjoyed cooking and camping and loved spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include three sons, Derrel Gofourth and his wife, Milissa, of Stillwater, OK, C. J. Gofourth, Parsons, KS and Daniel Hilton, Skiatook, OK; one daughter, Debra Lane and her husband, Steve, of Skiatook, OK; one Godson, Richard Collins, numerous special friends that she always referred to as "daughters"; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one brother, Donald Dixon, Mound Valley, KS; one sister, Catherine Swayze, Erie, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Ray, Gary and Robert Dixon. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 19, 2014 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to PALS or Operation Bright Touch.
