Phyllis C. "Granny" Thompson, 86, of Altamont, formerly of Parsons, died at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at Labette Health.
She was born June 11, 1922, in Huron, South Dakota, to Cecil L. and Hattie R. (Marks) Crabb. She grew up in South Dakota and moved to Stark, Kansas, as a child. She was a 1940 graduate of Grant Township High School in Stark.
She and Charles E. Thompson were married, and for a time, lived in Pasco, Washington. They later divorced.
In 1950, she returned to Parsons where she worked at Newberry's and the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center.
She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, gardening and shopping. She was baptized in the Presbyterian Church in Huron, South Dakota. She especially enjoyed being called "Granny" by those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by one son, Don Richard Thompson; one daughter, Carolyn Kay Vanderford; two brothers, Jim and Leighton Crabb; one sister, Helen Mount; and two great-grandsons, Kayden and Keaton Vanderford.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m., Saturday, June 28, 2008, at Bethel Cemetery, rural Erie. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2008, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
