Phyllis J. (Waters) Oas, 89, of Parsons, passed away at 12:02 a.m., Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Labette Health in Parsons, Kansas. Her death followed a brief illness. She was born September 17, 1926 at Tuscola, Illinois to Frederick H. Waters and Frances C. McGuire. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Montana where she grew up and attended school in Harlem, Montana and then Great Falls, Montana where she graduated from high school in 1944. Following high school, she moved to California for a time where she lived in the Palo Alto area and worked for the telephone company there. She later returned to Great Falls where she met her husband, Herbert L. "Bud" Oas. They were united in marriage on January 6, 1952. They later moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where she began working for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. Over the years, she was promoted to a management position and was the first woman with the company to hold the position of Trainer and Service Representative Manager. In 1983, her husband, Bud, passed away. Following her retirement in 1984, she moved to Florida where she was a member of Northland Church at Longwood, Florida and began her work at the Central Florida Crisis Hotline for several years. In April of 2009, she moved to Parsons, Kansas where she became a member of, and attended the First Presbyterian Church. Survivors Include: One Son: David Oas and his wife, Tammie of Parsons, Kansas One Daughter: Gretchen Wynegar of Port Orange, Florida Four Grandchildren: Leif "Alex" Oas, Lindsay Alvarado and her husband, Mario, Del Wynegar and his fiancée, Gemma, and Cale Wynegar and his wife, Tosha. Three Great-grandchildren: Gabriel, Natalie and Noah Alvarado In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a stillborn daughter; a son, Jeffrey Lynn Oas; one brother, Bobby Waters; and two sisters, Edith Ekegren and Peggy Glidden. Funeral services for Phyllis J. Oas will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, September 24, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time, on Thursday, at the church. The family will also receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Special Olympics or the First Presbyterian Church in Parsons. These may be left at or mailed to the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O.
