Ralph R. Johnson, 87, of rural Welch, Oklahoma, passed away at 6:25 a.m., Sunday, January 17, 2016 at Chetopa Manor Nursing Home.
He was born March 2, 1928 in Chetopa, Kansas to Thomas Logan and Hattie M. (Stewart) Johnson. As a youth, he grew up and attended school in Chetopa. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from October 11, 1950 to September 18, 1952. Upon his honorable discharge, he moved to Houston where he attended the University of Houston and earned a degree in electronics. After living in Houston 30 years, he retired and returned to rural Chetopa where he farmed.
He was baptized in the Assembly of God Church in Chetopa. Ralph enjoyed hunting and fishing.
On June 30, 1953, he and Mary E. Maggard were married in Chetopa. She survives of the home.
In addition to his wife, survivors include:
One Son – Richard Johnson and wife, Kim Welch, OK
One Daughter – Felita Johnson Welch, OK
Three Grandchildren – Tyler, Mary, and Sam Johnson
He was preceded in death by his parents, and nine siblings, Dora, Henry, Gladys, Elwood, Marg, Sylvia, Sammy, Kay and Bertha.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at the Community Bible Church in Chetopa. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at their convenience from 1-8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
