Randall Preston Hoggatt, 64, of Tulsa, passed on the evening of Thursday, November 9, 2017 after an 11-month battle with cancer. He died peacefully, with family and friends surrounding at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK.
Randy was born in Coffeyville, Kansas on September 8, 1953 to Jim A. and Blanche A. (Lancaster) Hoggatt. He attended Clymore Elementary, and at five years old won a talent show at a local fair, singing "Act Naturally" by Buck Owens, backed by his family's band.
Randy was always passionate about music, friends and family. He was a natural performer and artist. He brought people together and his smile and laughter was contagious and unforgettable.
He graduated from Labette County High School in 1971, studying auto-body and motorcycle repair. He always had a love for the form of the classic American automobile and was always drawing and painting.
He saw the world at a young age when he joined the Navy during the draft of the Vietnam War and was stationed in Chicago and San Diego, before travelling to places like Kaohsiung, Taiwan for his service.
Growing up near Altamont and Angola, Kansas, Randy loved the outdoors, spending time at Pumpkin Creek near the old Hoggatt homestead outside Coffeyville. He spent much of his childhood around Chetopa and lived most of his days in Coffeyville. He later lived around Grand Lake in Oklahoma, and spent his last years in Tulsa.
The occupations Randy held were numerous throughout his life, and he always took pride in his work. Whether it was his time as a carpenter, auto-body specialist, roofer, musician, plumber, clerk or general handyman, he made people feel like family and was always sharing laughs and truly cared for the people he surrounded himself with.
He spent time in numerous bands in his youth, including River Road and Hogjam. In the 90s he played lead guitar with a country band called Predator, playing and touring regionally.
Throughout his life, Randy was constantly creating. He was a gifted musician and was always making things whether through sculpture, drawing or, painting. He illustrated landscapes and classic cars in marker, and did comic strips with one-of-a-kind characters. One of his creations of a 40s Ford that he built and sculpted out of snow made it onto the front page of the newspaper. He was skilled in landscaping techniques and created beautiful fishponds and fountains, using natural resources and found objects, turning them into something special and uniquely Randy.
Randall Hoggatt was a musician and a true artist his entire life, writing dozens of songs over the years. He shared those and his interpretations of beloved songs through performances, dances, concerts, church bands and house parties. Music was his truest form of communication and laughter was his true language.
If you met Randy, you remembered him and he moved you. He made you laugh and he inspired you. If he loved you, you were family. He was full of love and will be missed.
Randy loved his family with his whole heart.
