Ray E. Wachs, 88, of Coffeyville, died at 12:00 a.m., January 3, 2013 at his home in Coffeyville.
He was born July 18, 1924, in rural Phillips County, Kansas, to Otto Edward and Helen Marie Katherine (Grauerholz) Wachs. As a young boy, he grew up in rural Phillips County where he attended elementary school and was a graduate of Kensington High School.
During World War II, he served in the United States Navy. He and Arlene J. Taylor were married August 22, 1948, at the Lutheran Church in Phillipsburg, Kansas. Upon his honorable discharge, he lived in several cities throughout the United States while working as a heavy equipment operator building bridges and dams. In 1963, he moved to Independence, Kansas, while working on the Elk City Dam. In1970, he moved to Coffeyville where he owned and operated 4th Street Laundry.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Coffeyville and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed work, family, and watching sports.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, William Ray "Bill" Wachs.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 11, 2013 at the First St. John Lutheran Church in Kensington, Kansas where the family will receive friends prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Germantown Cemetery in Kensington. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at the Forbes Funeral Home in Parsons.
