Raymond E. Houston, 95, of Parsons, departed this life on the evening of Monday, April 22, 2024, at his home.
Raymond Edward Houston was born on November 17, 1928, to James and Ethel Lee (Jones) Houston in Jarrell, Texas. He grew up in Georgetown, Texas, and graduated from Carver High School.
He was the youngest of three children, including Ozella (Pat) Hawkins and Helen (Willie) Dailey.
Raymond and Willnella Monroe were united in marriage on October 10, 1949. From that union, there were three children, Timothy McByers of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Jacqueline Moss of Parsons, Kansas; and Raymond A. Houston (Deceased).
Raymond and Irene Warren were united in marriage on April 27, 1963. From that union there were three children, Michael Houston (Laurie) of Parsons, Kansas; Lisa Houston of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; and Lori Houston of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Irene survives in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Raymond, better known as "Ray" worked for Commercial Publishers before working at I.M.I. Business Forms Corp. (Flesh Company) in 1968 and he retired from there in 1994. He also worked for 20 years for Parsons HeadStart.
He enjoyed playing dominoes, riding motorcycles, listening to the Blues, and working on and driving old cars. He was the proud owner of a 1981 and 1984 El Camino. Every year he enjoyed traveling to Georgetown, Texas, to see his family and friends and reminiscing about his childhood.
Raymond was loved by many and will be missed by all. He was a devoted father and truly loved his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his four daughters and one son; 14 grandchildren, Marcia Carson, Karmen Carson-McMorris, Craig McByers, Currie Moss, Ashli Moss, Chauncey Lyons, Carla Lowe, T.J. Houston, Mark Houston, Natashia Houston-Hill, Kimberly Houston, Dachael Vickery, Jarren Houston, and Jeffrie Houston; 21 great-grandchildren; William "Eric" Quinzy, whom he considered a son; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to give a special thanks to his nurse, Dixie Surrett, who could make him laugh and smile on his worst days; Deloris Opare, who provided him his dinner every Sunday; Johnny Nate, who was his right-hand man and was always there when needed; and the Harry Hynes staff.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Parsons. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
