Raymond A. "Ray" Vitt, 72, of Parsons, died at 5:15 p.m., Friday, November 13, 2009, at his home. Ray fought a short but valiant battle with cancer. Heaven's baseball team has a new player and God's ranch has a new top-hand.
He was born June 5, 1937, in St. Paul, Kansas, to Albert J. and Agnes A. (Callahan) Vitt. He grew up in St. Paul and graduated from St. Francis High School in 1956. Following graduation, he farmed for Casey O'Brien and later worked at McKinney Implement. He moved to Parsons in 1961 where he worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant, Kansas Gas & Electric Company, and the Parsons Stock Yards. He most recently worked for the Parsons Recreation Commission taking care of the baseball diamonds.
Ray loved spending time with his family and friends and was well known for his great sense of humor. For many years, he played baseball on several local teams and was a member of the ParKan Squares. He was also a member and past president of the Parsons Riding Club. He enjoyed raising quarter horses and riding and roping. Other hobbies included fishing, hunting, and bowling. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
He and Regina M. McKinney were married on September 12, 1959, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
She survives of the home.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Ed Vitt; and one sister, Catherine Grillott.
The funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the Rosary.
