Rebekah L. Ghering, 73, of Parsons, passed away the evening of Thursday, November 20, 2025, at Labette Health.
Rebekah Lou Malick was born on January 27, 1952, in Louisiana. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Parsons, where she grew up and attended school, graduating from Parsons High School.
Her life was devoted to caring for her family. A big fan of Elvis, Rebekah loved music, dancing and butterflies. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and loved the other residents and the staff at Woodridge Estates.
Survivors include:
Two sons – Ricky Lee Ghering of Chatauqua, Kansas
Clifford Leroy Ghering and his wife, Kylee, of Caney, Kansas
One daughter – Rhonda Whitaker and her husband, Billy, of Dennis, Kansas
Seventeen grandchildren
Numerous great-grandchildren
One sister – Brenda Lumm and her husband, Gary, of Parsons, Kansas
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clay Willie and Betty Louise (Thomas) Hopkins; her husband, Donald Eugene Ghering; three brothers, Lloyd Malick, Harold Hopkins, and infant Jack Hopkins; five sisters, Glenna Arie, Rosetta Wilson, Kaye Hopkins, Kelly Garrett, and Melissa Hopkins.
There will be a graveside service at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Springhill Cemetery in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Parsons.
