Rex R. Hammer, Sr.

Rex R. Hammer, Sr. 86, of Altamont, passed away at 8:21 p.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at his home.

Rex Ross Hammer was born on April 9, 1934, to Ferry White and Mary Bell (Ross) Hammer in Monroe County, Kentucky. He grew up and attended school in Kentucky.

Following graduating from high school, Rex joined the United States Air Force. After four years of service, he returned to Kentucky. He then moved to Lansing, Kansas, where he worked as a guard for six years. He lived in the Parsons and Coffeyville areas while working for the Katy Railroad. In 1972, Rex moved to Altamont and started his own tree removal and landscaping business.

He was a member of the Church of Christ and the Masonic Lodge in Altamont. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially time on the porch swing. He also enjoyed mowing and working on cars.

On May 23, 1965, Rex and Beatrice E. Peterson were married in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She survives of the home.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Rex Hammer, Jr. and Kenneth "Sam" Hammer; two brothers, Reggie Hammer and Royce Hammer; and two sisters, Kathleen Hedrick and Modelle Cloyd.

No service has been planned at this time. Cremation is under the direction of the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Altamont.
