Richard L. "Butch" Giles, 66, of Parsons, died at 4:00 p.m., Friday, July 20, 2012 at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center at the Via Christi St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
He was born November 14, 1945, in Oswego, Kansas, to Manuel F. and Barbara G. (Franz) Giles. As a young boy, he grew up on a farm between Oswego and Altamont and attended Fairview Grade School. He was a 1963 graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont and later attended Independence Community College where he played football and earned an Associate degree.
For a time, he lived in Wichita where he worked for the City of Wichita and the Coleman Company before moving to Erie where he worked at Erie Grain and Sohigro. He then moved to Parsons where he was employed by the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center from 1985 until retiring in 2003.
He enjoyed music, playing his guitar and collecting baseball and football cards.
He and Kathryn S. "Kathy" Simone were married April 6, 1979, in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives of the home.

Aubra Giles Summerville, SC
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Larry Giles.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 28, 2012, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons where the family will receive friends immediately following the service.
