Richard M. "Dick" Holroyd

Richard M. "Dick" Holroyd, 67, of Parsons, passed away at 8:40 p.m., Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at his home after a year-long battle with brain cancer.

He was born August 22, 1950 in Winfield, Kansas to James "Thurman" and Carmena (Colson) Holroyd. As a young boy, he grew up in Hewins, Kansas where he attended Hewins Grade School, a one-room school, and in 1968 graduated from Cedar Vale High School.

On October 29, 1971, he married Patricia Flaharty in Pittsburg. She survives of the home.

He graduated from Kansas State College of Pittsburg (now Pittsburg State University) in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree. He went on to receive Master of Science and Specialist in Education degrees from PSU.

For more than 40 years, Mr. Holroyd taught Industrial Arts Technology. He taught for three years at Horton High School and for 39 years at Labette County High School in Altamont. He retired from teaching in 2015. His hobbies included woodworking and hunting. He was currently attending Wesley United Methodist Church in Parsons.

Jana Dimond and her husband, Jack, of Springfield, MO

Megan Holroyd of Lawrence, KS

One Granddaughter – Nora Dimond of Springfield, MO

One Sister – Betty Flaharty and her husband, Calvin, of McCune, KS

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Following cremation, memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons with Rev. Tim Bever officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. Private burial will be in Ozro Falls Cemetery in Hewins at a later date.
