Richard H. "Dick" Maxwell

February 10, 1939 — April 27, 2011

Richard H. "Dick" Maxwell, 72, of Oswego, died at 7:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at his home.  He had been in failing health.  He was born February 10, 1939, in Faulkner, Kansas to John and Carol (Imel) Chapman.  At the age of 3, his father passed away and his mother married Ralph Maxwell who adopted Richard.   As a young boy, he grew up in the Faulkner area where he attended schools and graduated from Columbus High School. He and Dorothy Conard were married July 6, 1957, in Baxter Springs.  Following marriage, they lived in Wichita three years before returning to Faulkner where they made their family home and raised their family.  They had lived in Oswego the past four years.  Through the years he farmed and in 1984 began his twelve-year employment with E.A. Martin Industrial Equipment Company in Joplin.  He then worked three years at Wiese in Joplin until retiring. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Chetopa where he served as an elder and Sunday school teacher many years.  He enjoyed farming, being outdoors, tending his pecan trees, woodworking, and spending time with his grandchildren.  He also enjoyed visiting with friends and having coffee at the local Co-op.   Survivors include: Wife – Dorothy Maxwell    of the home, Oswego, KS One Son – Duane Maxwell    rural Faulkner, KS Two Daughters – Patricia McSherry   rural Columbus, KS  Sue Maxwell     of the home, Oswego, KSFour Grandchildren, Seven Great-Grandchildren, Mother – Carol Maxwell    Joplin, MO One Brother – Jim Maxwell    Hallowell, KS Four Sisters – Joyce Heflin    Joplin, MO  Carol Sue Sloane    Baxter Springs, KS Bonnie Feist      Faulkner, KS Connie Casey      Joplin, MO He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Maxwell; and one great-grandson, Justin Maxwell.Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 30, 2011, at the Fairview Cemetery, east of Chetopa.  A Celebration of Life service will be held immediately following the burial at the First Christian Church in Chetopa.  Friends may call at their convenience after 9:00 a.m., Friday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. Memorials are suggested to Hospice Care of Kansas, the First Christian Church of Chetopa or Safe Haven Outreach Mission, Inc. of Parsons.  These may be left at or mailed to Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O.
