Richard A. "Dick" Giefer, 82, a lifelong resident of South Mound, Kansas, died at 7:28 a.m., Sunday, July 28, 2019 at his home.
He was born on March 31, 1937 in South Mound to Fredrick "Fritz" and Mary Coreen (Johnston) Giefer. He attended Mentor Country School and South Mound School. He then attended St. Patrick High School in Parsons.
Dick spent his life working on his farm, where he resided 72 years of his life. He operated a dairy, raised crops, and beef cattle.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons.
Throughout the years, he enjoyed coyote hunting, collecting old tractors, visiting his neighbors on his four-wheel ATV. He was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball team. Dick loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He and Sharon Conley were married on November 27, 1959 in South Mound. They later divorced.

He was preceded in death by one son, Michael Giefer, fours sisters; Anna Marie Richards, Betty Woas, Dorothy Burgess, Mary Coreen Giefer, and three brothers; Charles, John, and Bill Giefer.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 1, 2019 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 7:00 p.m., following the rosary.
