Richard A. Good, 74, of Cherryvale, passed away Friday, September 22, 2023, at his residence.
Richard Allen Good ("Rick", "Daddy Doe", "Uncle Ricky") was born on March 5, 1949, to Ralph and Ruby (Musselman) Good in Mound Valley, Kansas. Richard was a member of the Labette County Community High School class of 1967. While in high school, Rick was well-known by all and was proud to be a prominent football player for the LCCHS Grizzlies.
Rick loved sports, especially KC Chiefs football, KU basketball, and the Kansas City Royals. He loved tinkering with his hands and anytime you talked to him, he was sitting in his easy chair "playing fishing poles", outside tending to his tomatoes, or researching cars and boats or cool gadgets on eBay, but would also wait years to buy until he found the perfect deal.
He loved to dance, dress well, to eat and enjoy all the nice things in life, like chocolate ice cream. But he especially loved Mexican food. For years he would order the "Speedy Gonzalez" and would douse everything in salt, pepper and the hottest salsa, always asking the waiter for "muy caliente!?" salsa.
Most of all, Rick loved his family. There wasn't a time in his life that he wouldn't drop everything to go and do absolutely anything for them when he knew they needed him. His love and his heart were so strong.
Rick took every opportunity to spend quality time with his girls and their families. He showed up for every recital, play, or softball game, so proud to see his girls doing well. He got to be the "Good Grandpa" for his grandsons. He got choked up often just thinking about how much he loved them all. He was known to well-up with emotion often, overwhelmed by the love he shared with them.
Rick lived so hard and so well; he laughed and loved so deeply. His sense of humor made Rick everyone's best friend. He was known for intricate story-telling or jokes. And now, he gets to spend every day fishing on his boat while listening to the Royals on the radio and watching the Chiefs play in the reflection of the water at sunset.
He is survived by:
Two daughters – Kaysha Rios and husband, Geno, of Leawood, Kansas
Ashley Good and husband, Shaun Henisey, of Collinsville, Oklahoma
Three grandchildren – Alice Henisey, Julian Rios and Dominic Rios
One sister- Cora Lou Allmon of Coffeyville, Kansas
