Richard C. Houghton, 82, of rural Erie, died at 12:55 p.m., Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at Labette Health in Parsons.
He was born March 19, 1927, in Centerville Township, Neosho County, Kansas, to Charles Evans and Hazel Maude (Naanes) Houghton. He grew up in Centerville Township, attended schools in rural Neosho County, and was a graduate of Galesburg High School.
Throughout his adult life he farmed, raised livestock, and was a self-employed truck driver for several years.
He loved the outdoors, the farm and his cattle. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and was an avid card player. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren's activities.
He and Louise McAdams were married March 31, 1946, in Girard, Kansas. She preceded him in death December 22, 2000.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Blair and Marjorie Bohner.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 16, 2009, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home. The family will hold private committal services at East Hill Cemetery in Erie.
