Rural Chetopa

Richard R. Littlejohn, 82, of rural Chetopa, passed away at 4:35 a.m., Monday, September 17, 2018 at his home after a long battle with cancer with his wife, Verda, by his side.

He was born August 12, 1936 in Chetopa, Kansas to Raymond and Maxine (Sweet) Littlejohn.  He grew up and attended schools in Chetopa and was a 1954 graduate of Chetopa High School.

Following high school, he worked at Chetopa Implement for 14 years.  He then worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant and later Pittsburg and Midway Coal Company until its closing in 1974.  After the closing of the coal company, he and his son, Randy, had a farming operation until 2011.  Richard retired following the death of his son.

He was a member of Bartlett Christian Church and the Antique Tractor Club.  He enjoyed restoring antique tractors, listening to country music, and singing.

On March 28, 1955, he and Verda Molitor were married.  She survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, survivors include:

Two Grandchildren – Jay Littlejohn and his wife, Katie, of Chetopa, KS

Amanda Lester and her husband, Troy, of Welch, OK

Four Great-Grandchildren – Jackson Littlejohn, Kynlea Littlejohn, Clayton Lester, and Aubrie Lester

One Brother – Ronnie Littlejohn and his wife, Delores, of Miami, OK

Two Nephews – Scott Littlejohn and his wife, Elizabeth, of Commerce, OK

Lance Littlejohn and his wife, Dee, of Commerce, OK

He was preceded in death by his son, Randy Littlejohn, on September 11, 2011; and his parents, Raymond and Maxine Littlejohn.

Following cremation, graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 20, 2018 at Lake Creek Cemetery near Bartlett.

Memorials are suggested to the Bartlett Christian Church or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.  These may be left at or mailed to Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 346, Chetopa, KS 67336.
