Richard L. Noe, 75, of rural Altamont, passed away at 1:00 AM, Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.
Richard was born on February 26, 1942 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Albert B. and Alice Olive (Mael) Noe. He grew up and attended school in Mason City, Iowa, graduating from high school there in 1960. Shortly following high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served for a time in Canada and then in 1966 served one tour of duty in Vietnam. In 1968, while visiting family in Parsons, Kansas during leave from the Air Force, he met his future wife, Wanda Anderson, and four months later, they were married on June 19, 1968 in Parsons, Kansas. They would have celebrated 50 years of marriage later this year. Following their marriage, they were stationed in California, Turkey, Thailand, Texas, Germany and finally Nebraska, where he retired from the Air Force in October of 1981 after 21 years of service.
Following his retirement, they lived in Nebraska until moving to Parsons, Kansas where his wife, Wanda, transferred to work at the Parsons Post Office. In 1991, they moved to their current home near Altamont. Richard and Wanda were members of the Oswego Christian Church. Richard was an avid hunter and especially enjoyed teaching his sons to hunt. He also enjoyed woodworking, especially making lamps on his lathe as well as clocks which he enjoyed giving to others. He had served as a Boy Scout leader in the past. He was a founding member of the Heartland Vietnam Veterans. Richard loved joking around and if he teased you, it proved that he liked you.
Survivors include his Wife, Wanda of the home; Four Sons: Richard Noe, II (Constance) of Lewisport, Kentucky, Donald Noe (Lisa) of Gaylord, Michigan, Daniel Noe (Joanne) of Parsons, Kansas and David Noe (Anjanette), of Davis, Oklahoma; Five Granddaughters: Hope Noe, Miranda Noe, Cassie Blevins, Samantha Young, Madison Steenrod; One Great-grandson: Eli Young. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Leora Lee and Mary Bergner.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral in Parsons with Pastor Kent Wagner officiating. Burial will follow at the Fort Scott National Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kansas. The family will receive friends at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home from 7 to 8 PM, Wednesday.
