Rita Marie Nance

August 25, 1959 — May 14, 2013

Rita Marie Nance, 53, of Parsons, died at 8:10 p.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

She was born August 25, 1959, in Clinton, Iowa, to Clinton Eugene "Gene" Nance and M. Margarita "Maggie" (Leon) Nance. As a young girl, her family relocated to Parsons where she graduated from Parsons High School and earned a degree in nursing at Labette Community College.

She worked 15 years as a registered nurse before becoming Department Manager of the Assistive Technology Access Site at Southeast Kansas Independent Living Center. She was well thought of by her colleagues and adored all the persons she worked for and with. She had a very special place in her heart for her direct supervisor, Dave Sorrick, and the director/CEO of SKIL, Shari Coatney, whom she often referred to as "an angel on Earth" that our Lord sent into her life at exactly the time she was needed.

Rita enjoyed service to others and often was quite frustrated with her body for betraying her physically but tried to continue to provide wit and emotional support to those in need. She particularly enjoyed reading and partying whether playing games and visiting or having a laugh at her own expense. She truly loved spending time with her grandson, Julian, and all of her very large and extended family.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons.
