Rita L. Shinn, 71, of Parsons, died at 6:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Elm Haven West Nursing Home in Parsons.
She was born November 24, 1942 in Joplin, Missouri to Milton P. and Clarece M. (Higginbotham) Asbill. She grew up in Parsons where she attended school and was a 1960 graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont.
Following high school, she moved to Wichita where she was employed by Beechcraft Corporation for a time. She then returned to Parsons where she worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant until moving to Florida. In 1973, she returned to Parsons where she worked for Day and Zimmerman at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant as an administrative assistant through 1994. She then was employed at Dwayne's Photo in Parsons until retiring.
In earlier years, Rita bowled in a league and enjoyed crocheting, crafts and antiques.
Survivors include one son, Stephen Medlam and his wife, Sheila, of Cameron, MO; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Pat Asbill and his wife, Sandra, of Manila, UT; and one sister, Anita Horton, of Parsons, KS.
She was preceded in death by her father, Milton Asbill, on April 29, 2008; her mother, Clarece Asbill, on June 18, 2013; and one daughter, Erica Hood.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 28, 2014 at Oakwood Cemetery in Parsons. Friends may call at their convenience at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons after 2:00 p.m., on Thursday.
