Robert L. "Bob" McConnell, 90, of Oswego, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at the Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.
He was born November 22, 1929 at rural Cherryvale, Kansas to Glen and Hazel (Pennington) McConnell. He attended schools in the rural Cherryvale area and graduated from Cherryvale High School in 1947. He grew up on a farm which is now part of Big Hill Lake. He raised his own family on the farm there as well. Bob farmed throughout most of his life and did custom silo filling and sheep shearing for a time. He worked for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad for time and then later the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant. He also did numerous odd jobs over the years.
He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. He also enjoyed fishing and had been active in FFA in high school. In earlier years he was a member of the Elks Club and the Masonic Lodge. He especially loved animals.
He was united in marriage to June Marie Passwater on May 28, 1950 in Cherryvale, Kansas. She preceded him in death on November 6, 2008.

David (Diane) McConnell – Parsons, Kansas
Four Grandchildren:
Melissa (Jon) Murray, Travis (Karla) McConnell, Matthew McConnell and Fiancee Stacie and Jessica (Jason) Adams.

One Brother: Dean (Shirley) McConnell – Cherryvale, Kansas
One Sister: Bonnie (Bill) Oliver - Elk City, Kansas
In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra June McConnell who passed away on January 11, 2003, one brother, Louis McConnell and one sister, Frances Eichhorn.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, August 14, 2020, at the Mitchell Cemetery in rural Oswego. Friends may call at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Parsons from 1 PM to 8 PM, Thursday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, 405 Main Street, Parsons, Kansas. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Proud Animal Lovers Shelter (PALS) and these may left at or mailed to the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, PO Box 374, Parsons, Kansas 67357.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, masks will be required for those entering the funeral home. Social distancing is requested for the safety of the family and others in attendance.
