Robert K. "Bob" Shaw, 61, of Parsons, passed away peacefully at 3:15 a.m., Saturday, November 21, 2009, at Elmhaven West Nursing Home in Parsons. He had been in failing health.
He was born October 1, 1948, in Independence, Kansas, to William H. and Opal M. (Kendall) Shaw. He grew up and attended schools in Cherryvale, Kansas, where he graduated from Cherryvale High School in 1966.
Following high school graduation, he served in the Army National Guard. After his discharge from the National Guard in 1969, he attended Independence Community College and earned a Bachelor's degree from Emporia State University. He then began his career as an economics teacher at Independence Community College, later earning his Master's degree from Pittsburg State University. He was employed by Independence Community College until his death.
He was a member of Parsons Elks – BPOE Lodge No. 527. Bob was an avid fan of K.U. basketball, Chiefs football, and Royals baseball. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and especially enjoyed a good practical joke. He dearly loved his family and friends.
He and Nola Kellogg were married May 19, 1984, in Cherryvale. She survives of the home.

One Grandson – Marcus Shearhart Altamont, KS
One Sister – Dyann Trollope and husband, Jerry, of Independence, KS; and their children, Jeff Groff; Doug Groff and wife, Kristie; Kristin Keenan and husband, Shane; Michael Trollope; all of Independence, and Kari Adams and husband, Justin, of Topeka, KS.
Numerous Nieces, Nephews and Extended Family
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8:00 p.m., Monday.
