Robert L. "Bob" Westhoff

Robert L. "Bob" Westhoff, 79, of Parsons, passed away at 5:52 p.m., Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

He was born December 22, 1934 in rural Hepler, Kansas to Marion Edward and Gertrude (Fager) Westhoff. He grew up in Hepler where he was a 1952 graduate of Hepler High School.

Following graduation, he worked as a mechanic at Evans Motors in Girard. He then worked in Parsons at the Conoco Station five years before owning and operating Bob's Conoco in Parsons for two years. In 1957, he began working at Boeing in Wichita for twelve years on B52's. He then returned to Parsons where he worked for five years at Ankortite as a machine operator, at Coors Distributing Company as warehouse manager for ten years, and most recently at Slayman's Beverage Company for three years until retiring.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. He enjoyed mowing and taking care of his land.

In 1973, he and Wilma Joan Hibdon were married at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Walnut. They later divorced. On August 20, 1999, the couple was reunited in marriage at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. She preceded him in death on March 8, 2007.

Survivors include one son, Robert L. Westhoff, Jr., Parsons, KS; one daughter, Vicki M. Saliba and her husband, Sam, Granbury, TX; four grandchildren, Aaron Saliba, Hannah Hernandez and her husband, Al, Miriam Saliba, and Maranda Westhoff; one great-granddaughter, Olivia; one great-grandson, Bentlynn; and two sisters, Patty Lucas and Doris Prickett.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Bill and Jim Westhoff; five sisters, Mary Goff, Julia Sapp, Olive Howell, Fern McDaniel and Ellen Harris; and an infant daughter.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 8, 2014 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Walnut. The rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m., Friday, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. The family will receive friends at 7:30 p.m., Friday, in Parish Hall at the church.
